At present, your topic is very broad. You may want to try limiting your research focus. For example, you might want to narrow down your topic by population (females in middle childhood, males in middle childhood, transgendered youth in middle childhood, etc.). If you're not ready to narrow down your search just yet, I suggest beginning with a multidisciplinary database such as Academic Search Complete or ProQuest Centeral (both are available on our A-Z list of databases) or a subject-specific database in the social sciences, such as SOCIndex or PsyArticles (also available via the A-Z list).

Here is an example search you may want to begin with in PsyArticles: Children AND Self Esteem. Although this search initially yeilds over 8,000 items, you can quickly and effectively narrow down your search by using the sidebar to limit your results as demonstrated here: https://nyit.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://search.proquest.com/search/323188?accountid=12917
