A search in our catalog for New York State AND Environmental Conditions yeilded the following book: The Nature of New York: An Environmental History of the Empire State. According to the index, Long Island is mentioned several times throughout the text; given the subject matter, it may prove helpful for your assignment. I have left this book on hold for you at the Circulation Desk at Wisser Library should you choose to check it out.

Articles in the databases are very specific in nature, therefore you will find it difficult to locate articles which summarize the broad area of information you are trying to locate. Instead, you may want to research individual aspects of environmental changes on Long Island and use that information to create a summary. For example, you may want to perform separate searches for specific environmental changes such as:

"Long Island" AND (Beach Erosion OR Costal Erosion):

or

"Long Island" AND Climate Change:

The above examples come from the database Academic Search Complete, but I suggest checking out additional science and technology databases here: http://www.nyit.edu/library/find_resources/science_and_technology
